Lutheran Refugee Services has started to offer a class for cultural orientation and ESL for our clients. For the past five weeks we have covered a variety of topics including housing, finances, employment, and health and wellness. Students have learned the skills they need in a practical, hands on setting. Some examples have included: a trip to the post office to buy stamps, practicing calling the doctor to make an appointment or the landlord with a problem, filling out job applications and going through a mock interview, and many more. We have been blessed with a large class, usually around 30-35 adults who consistently attend.
At our last class before Thanksgiving, we explained the meaning behind this holiday and asked our students what they are thankful for. We received a wide variety of responses, most relating to friends, family, God, and the opportunity to take our class. I took some pictures and thought others might like to see these as well. Enjoy!
