Bilal Al-Tememi, a job developer at Lutheran Refugee Services, was awarded "LCFS Employee of the Year 2011" on December 22, 2011. This award was given in recognition for his hard work as an employee; he went above and beyond his job description to help his clients and coworkers alike. Bilal has been an instrumental proponent for our refugees in finding them employment.
Bilal was born in Baghdad, Iraq. He attended Alrafdian College and graduated with a degree in Software Engineering. He started to work for the US Army as an interpreter in August of 2008 and worked until February of 2010. He then proceeded to work in the IT department of Proctor and Gamble from February 2010 until August 2010 when he started preparations for coming to the United States. He arrived alone in the United States on September 8, 2010, but is really looking forward to being reunited with his family who will be arriving in the United States soon.
Bilal enjoys being social and communicating with people. He likes to play soccer and basketball, as well spending time reading and on Facebook. His favorite American food is mashed potatoes. Bilal says the best part of his job is learning and dealing with the different cultures and backgrounds of his clients. He also enjoys moving furniture and driving the U-Haul.
Bilal would like to thank everyone for helping him to achieve this accomplishment and added, “If I get the chance to be Employee of the Year, it is because of Selma’s help and supervision, Kristen’s help and advice, my coworkers’ help, and everyone working as a team.” Congratulations Bilal!
